The Wakulla County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified applicants for a full-time benefitted position of Fleet Mechanic in the Road & Bridge Department.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, repairing, and maintaining vehicles and equipment, completing work orders, providing emergency roadside service and welding. Repairs engines, transmissions or differentials, repairs brake systems, air-conditioners, and heating units. Performs preventative maintenance on vehicles; responds to emergency calls for roadside assistance for disabled county vehicles. Test-drives vehicles to establish problem areas and to ensure proper functioning upon completion of repairs. Must attend and participate in training for relevant skills and required knowledge for OSHA compliance.

Qualified applicants must possess a high school diploma or its equivalent and five (5) years of specialized vocational training in automotive mechanic or a closely related field. A State Commercial Driver’s License is preferred. ABILITIES: Ability to lift to 50 lbs.; read technical instructions, charts, and/or procedures manuals; ability to make decisions with minor impact; ability to manage or use machines, tools or equipment; knowledge of basic math skills and ability to compute ratios, rates and percentages. Ability to make decisions with minor impact affecting only those in immediate work area.
Must be able to work cohesively with others and be willing to work nonstandard and overtime hours as required.
