PUBLIC NOTICE

Wakulla County Releases Proposed Amendments to the Wakulla Springs Protection Regulations to Protect Water Quality

Wakulla County is pleased to announce that proposed amendments to the Wakulla Springs Protection Regulations are now available for review. The proposed amendments to the regulations are designed to protect our greatest environmental assets. The amendments would establish additional environmental protective measures ensuring the health of Wakulla County’s groundwater and Wakulla Springs. The amendments would apply to applicants for commercial development within the Wakulla Springs Special Protection Area who produce, use, or store regulated substances. Based on various die-tracing studies and reports on groundwater flow to and from Wakulla Springs, it has been determined that preventing site contamination at the surface protects groundwater in all known and unknown conduits.

Today kicks off the 10-day initial public comment period, which will end on Friday, April 21, 2023. Wakulla County Administration is encouraging citizens to participate in finalizing the proposed amendments to the regulation.
