Wakulla County Announces Plans to Strengthen Wakulla Springs Protection Regulations to Protect Water Quality

WAKULLA COUNTY, Fla – Wakulla County is pleased to announce plans to present proposed amendments to the Wakulla Springs Protection Regulations to safeguard Wakulla Springs. These proposed amendments would increase local environmental management within the existing Wakulla Springs Protection Zone to ensure the protection of this regionally significant natural resource. The amendments will include additional protective measures to prevent surface and groundwater contamination.

"There are many known and unknown cave systems that convey water to Wakulla Springs, and we must safeguard them for our environment and future generations," said County Administrator David Edwards.

The proposed amendments will be released on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, kicking off a 10-day initial public comment period. Wakulla County Administration is encouraging citizens to participate in finalizing the proposed amendments to the regulation.

On April 12, Wakulla County will publish a public notice releasing the proposed amendments and instructions for submitting public comments and recommendations.
