Wakulla 4-H to Host 2024 County Public Speaking Competition April 11

CRAWFORDVILLE, Fla. – Wakulla 4-H agent Dr. Rachel Pienta announced the date of the 2024 Public Speaking Competition, “We’re very excited to host this year’s contest event on April 11 at the Extension office in Crawfordville. Community members can expect an inspiring evening listening to amazing public speaking from local 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students!”

What is the Public Speaking Competition?
Wakulla County elementary and middle schools are invited to participate in the Florida 4-H Public Speaking school enrichment program powered by Florida Power & Light (FPL). This educational program, designed to introduce fourth, fifth, and sixth-grade children to the concept of public speaking, is administered by your local UF/IFAS Cooperative Extension Office. Students throughout Florida compete in classroom and school-wide speaking contests, with winners advancing to a county competition.

When is the Competition?
The 2024 Wakulla 4-H Public Speaking Competition will be held on Thursday, April 11, at the Wakulla County Extension Office. Doors open at 6 PM, and the competition begins at 6:30 PM. Admission is free, and the public is welcome to attend to support our youth speakers.

Additional Information about the Program
To prepare children for this educational opportunity, participating teachers have been provided with a series of instructional materials introducing the Florida 4-H Public Speaking school enrichment program. Through this program, children learn how to research, organize, and deliver a speech topic of their choice.
Winners of the Wakulla County competition will compete in a regional competition on May 4, 2024.
